This event marks the 75th anniversary of “Operation Overlord” – the Allied invasion of Nazi occupied Europe on June 6th 1944.
During this year there are lots of military events happening, but this Event is taking place on the actual ground used in early June 1944, when thousands of British and Canadian troops embarked on their invasion route through Normandy.
The event will recreate scenes from these times, and a memorial service will be held at the memorial in Stokes Bay to remember the sacrifice of all those people, both military and civilian, that gave their lives in the cause of freedom.
